Lord God has created innumerable angels in thousands and ten thousands. They exist in the form of spirits . We can not perceive them with our corporeal eyes. However if God opens our eyes to see these angels, we can see them (II King 6:17). They may also appear to us , taking human forms (Heb 13:2). They are ministering spirits sent forth to serve those who will inherit salvation (Heb 1:14). Let us now see as to whom and how these angels offer their services.
Those who overcame temptation:
Before the Lord elevates and uses His children, He puts them through trials. The Lord tests them to see how fearful they are of Him, how much they value His words and how firm they are in keeping the statutes irrespective of circumstances. God sends His angels to minister unto those who come out of such trials successfully. Godly men like Shadrach, Meshak and Aded-Nego, obeying God's commandment of not to worship any idol, chose to disregard the command of king Nebuchadnezzar in the presence of his counselors, and thereby earned the wrath of the king for firmly holding onto
their convictions and were cast into a fiery furnace. Immediately God sent His angel and saved them from fire touching them. Angels saved those who valued scriptures and firmly held on to the statutes of God. Before starting His ministry, Lord Jesus Christ obtained baptism and Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil (Matt 4:1). None should attempt to do any ministry before obtaining Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit no one can say that Jesus is the Lord or Master nor anyone can claim to be His servant (I Cor 12:3,5). Jesus Christ did not give in to the temptations of the devil but overcame him by giving importance to the scriptures. Soon after satan left Him, angels came and ministered to Him (Matt 4:11).
Angels come and serve those who obey God and overcome satan by not yielding to temptations. Angels intervene and do everything to ensure success in all the affairs of such people. Because God honors those who honor Him. Whoever loses his or her mother, father, relatives and friends for the sake of Jesus Christ, will find God Himself taking the role of father etc., and angels doing everything as would their assistants and friends.
Blessed are those who endure trials and give prominance to the statutes of God. They will receive the promised crown of life (James 1:12).
Those who do the will of God:
These days many judge apparently that whatever matter that meets with easy success are the will of God and whatever matter that faces obstacles, confusions, oppositions, sorrows and travails are not the will of God. Therefore saint Paul advises thus: "Not conforming to the pattern followed by worldly people who seek to fulfill their desires under the prevailing circumstances, to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God" (Rm 12:2). From the beginning, satan's sole aim of struggling with people is to prevent them from doing the will of God. Therefore in whatever matter God has prime interest, in all such matters, satan's fierce struggle will be evident. Many are afraid of facing these struggles, grow weary and fail to fulfill the will of God. Few others think that whatever happens in their life is the will of God and thus deceive themselves and fulfill their own will.
First a man should know the will of God. Second , he should commit himself to fulfill that will of God. Third, he must struggle relentlessly to fulfill that will of God. Apostle Paul too prayed constantly that all those in his pastorate may fulfill the will of God completely ( II Thes 1:11).
When a person commits himself wholeheartedly to do the will of God but finds himself lacking in strength, angels are sent to strengthen them. As the final moments approached, Jesus Christ who had faced temptations in every way like us, was greatly disturbed in His soul. How greatly are we troubled , when we , who had lived fully in sin and drank evil (sin) like water, after being saved by the tender mercy of God, find a small error enter our lives! How much are we perturbed until we confess that and obtain remission of sin. When this small matter could create such agony in the lowly beings such as we, how great the agony would be for the most holy God in whom there is no trace of sin, when he had to bear the burden of the sins of people of the whole world as if He Himself had committed all those sins!
But such was the will of God that Jesus should bear this burden of sin. He was overwhelmed with sorrow and distress. He was greatly troubled. Nevertheless He, the ram that walks at the head of the flock, did not draw back from doing the will of God. He offered Himself that the will of God be fulfilled in Him completely and prayed " not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto Him from heaven, strengthening Him" (Lk 22:42-43).
Those who live in their Lord:
A man who lives within a fortified city is protected from the attack of enemies. However big this fort may be, he is free to move and rest anywhere within and he can not be harmed by the enemy. But the moment, he steps out of the fort, that protection is lost and like the man who fell into the hands of thieves while traveling from the well built city of Jerusalem to Jericho, he will be attacked by the enemy.
The man in Christ is a new creation. Old doctrines, old sinful life, old friends, old habits, disobedience, ungodliness are left aside and he hides in Christ as a new creation. He can do anything acceptable to God. He can travel anywhere under the leading of the Holy Spirit. He is not harmed in any way. Angels protect him from all kinds of evil except the suffering and loss that may come on account of the gospel. Because he has the Lord as his abode, in other words, as he abides in Christ, no harm will befall him and plague shall not come near. Angels are sent to guard him in all his ways lest he strikes his foot against a stone. However if someone were to say : "I will go after old things; I don't need godly counsels; I will do what I think fit; I will go anywhere I like", to such persons , angels do not offer protection. Beloved, respect God's commandments (scriptures) and overcome temptation.
Know the will of God and commit yourselves to do it. Stay within God's wings (habitation). You shall receive the service of angels.
"Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him" (Matt 4:11).
