PSALMS

 

The book of Psalms has been held in high regard by the church of the Lord at all times.

This gives a brief overview about the thoughts contained in other books of the Bible.

Besides, the book of psalms shows the way to the people of God to worship God, to

praise Him, to meditate on his characteristics, works and commandments, to be

remorseful of our sins and to lead a godly and righteous life in this world. Therefore for

the purpose of edification, everyone needs this book of psalms. To help reading this

well, we give below the various psalms appropriate for different circumstances.

1) Psalms appropriate when one is penitent and remorseful of one's sins:

Psalms 6, 25, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, 143

2) Psalms appropriate for praying in places where there is no worship of God:

Psalms 42-43, 63, 84

3) Psalms appropriate for praying during such times of undergoing afflictions

and remaining comfortless:

Psalms 13, 22, 69, 77, 88, 143

4) On occasions when others falsely accuse us and twist judgment, the following

psalms are appropriate to pray to God that He might set right the injustice done to us

and bless us.

Psalms 7, 17, 26, 35

5) Psalms appropriate when we are steadfast in our faith in God in times of

distress:

Psalms 3, 16, 27, 31, 54, 56-57, 61-62, 71, 86

6) Psalms appropriate when the church of the Lord is being persecuted:

Psalms 44, 60, 74, 79-80, 83, 89, 94, 102, 123, 137

7) Psalms suitable for praying at times of various mental strains:

Psalms 4-5, 11, 28, 41, 55, 59, 64, 70, 109, 120, 140-142

8) Psalms suitable to pray for others:

Psalms 20, 67, 122, 132, 144

9) Psalms apt for praising God in remembrance of His mercies in helping people

through various adverse circumstances :

Psalms 9, 18, 22, 30, 34, 40, 75, 103, 108, 116, 118, 138, 144

10) Psalms fit for praising God for the common blessings which He had bestowed

upon the people:

Psalms 46, 48, 65-66, 68, 76, 81, 85, 98, 105, 124, 126, 129, 135-136, 149

11) Psalms suitable for meditating on the characteristics of God and praising

him; these are the psalms appropriate for meditating on His grace, mercies and

especially of His concern for the good people:

Psalms 23, 34, 36, 91, 100, 103, 107, 117, 121, 145-146

12). Psalms apt for meditating on the attributes of God such as His power

etc.:

Psalms 8, 19, 24, 29, 33, 47, 50, 65-66, 76-77, 93, 95-97, 99, 104, 111, 113-115, 134, 139, 145, 147, 150

13) Psalms that refer to the ordinances; these are the psalms that mention

about the righteous and the wicked and of the blessings and the curses set in store for

them:

Psalms 1, 5, 10-12, 14-15, 17, 24-25, 32, 34, 36-37, 50, 52-53, 58, 73, 75, 91-92, 94, 102, 119, 121, 125, 127-128, 133

14) Psalms that proclaim the magnificence of the scriptures granted by God:

Psalms 19, 119

15) Psalms that show the futility of this life:

Psalms 39, 49, 90

16) Psalms that are of advisory nature to officers and persons who exercise

authority:

Psalms 82, 101

17) Psalm that shows the greatness of humility:

Psalms 131

18) Prophetic psalms:

Psalms 2, 16, 22, 40, 45, 68, 72, 87, 110, 118

19) Historical psalms:

Psalms 78, 105-106

The law of the Lord is perfect (Psalms 19:7).
