COME AND WORSHIP JESUS CHRIST

Don't Grumble

There was a wealthy nobleman in a small village. He was very compassionate and liberal in helping the poor. There was a farmer living near his orchard. He was extremely poor. He was suddenly afflicted with a disease. He suffered greatly as he could not work. On seeing his plight the nobleman came forward and provided for his daily sustenance. The farmer was praising his generosity to all those whom he came across. He was soon cured of his disease and was very happy. He was grateful for all the benefits, which he received from the nobleman.

After a while, due to drought and some family problems the nobleman could not help the farmer much. Though he had been receiving help for so long, his countenance changed now. After a few days the nobleman was not in a position to help the farmer anymore. The farmer forgot all the benefits, which he had been enjoying through the nobleman. He began to view the nobleman as someone who had failed in his duty.

Like this ungrateful fool, many people are grumbling before God and are blaspheming Him. We should realize who we are. We are creations made for Him. We are placing a chair at our house anywhere we like. How would we feel if the chair were to question our intelligence and ask us why we moved it the way we did. The chair does not have a mouth whereas we have. That is the reason we talk whatever comes in our mouth against God.

If we have anything at all, God had given that to us by His grace. We were enemies of God rebelling against Him. We are descendants of the sinner Adam. If we are protected from death, it is because of God, who is like a generous man who helps his enemy. It is only from God that we receive all our benefits, which we enjoy. Just because we do not get an expected blessing, blaming God, feeling bitter against Him, grumbling about Him or asking others why God failed to give that blessing, shows our ignorance. This is a sin.

Those who grumble so do not know God properly. Those who know Him properly would be content under any circumstances, in prosperity or in want (Phil.4:11,12). Whatever be the loss, they will be praising God. They will not blame God or grumble before Him (Job 1:21,22; 2:10). They will rejoice in the Lord (Hab. 3:17,18). It is true that like the husband who is responsible to feed and care for his wife, Christ too is responsible to feed and care for us (Eph. 5:29).

But what kind of a Person is He? He is not weak like us. He is capable of doing everything. He is Holy who does not forget or fail in His duty like us human beings. He is not lacking in character like us. He is perfect in character. The one who blames such a Person, deems himself wiser than God. He weighs himself against God in a scale and accuses God to be wanting. Such a person will lose the salvation he received and will perish on the way (I Cor. 10:10). Our sins might have prevented the blessings from reaching us (Jer. 5:25) or satan might have hindered (Dan.10:13) or the appropriate time might not have come to receive that blessing (John 2:4).

Therefore Children of God! Don't grumble. The one who leaves God for not getting something is like a woman who leaves her husband to live with another man because he lost his job and failed to bring home money.

Job said, "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised" (Job 1:21).
